St. Matthew 9

9:1 And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into His own city.

[The City of Capernaum; the city of consolation.]

2 And, behold, they brought to Him a man sick of the palsy, [Palsy meaning paralyzed.] lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy [Your] sins be forgiven thee.

[Only Yahveh [God] can forgive sin. Jesus Christ was Yahveh [God] with us in a flesh body. You can document Jesus Christ is Yahveh [God] by comparing St. John 1:1 and St. John 1:14. It is also written in St. Matthew 1:23 they shall call His name Immanuel which being interpreted is Yahveh [God] with us.]

[By saying your sins are forgiven Jesus Christ is going to stir up some people because there are scribes [Scripture lawyers] present. They don’t recognize Jesus as the messiah.]

3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore [Why] think ye [You] evil in your hearts? [Minds]

[Jesus Christ knows what they are thinking; He can read their minds and He can read your mind.]

5 For whether [Which] is easier, to say, Thy [Your] sins be forgiven thee; [You] or to say, Arise, and walk?

6 But that ye [You] may know that the Son of man hath [Has] power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith [Said] He to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy [Your] bed, and go unto thine [Your] house.

[Yahveh/Jesus Christ has the power to forgive your sins unto eternal life and has the power to heal your flesh body. To be forgiven for your sins you must sincerely put Jesus Christ first in your life by doing His will. His will is for you to learn and become a doer of His word. IF it is His will He will heal your flesh body.]

7 And he [The man that had been paralyzed.] arose, and departed to his house.

[He got up and went home.]

8 But when the multitudes [Crowd of people] saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, [Yahveh] which had given such power unto men. [Unto a man]

9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, [From there] He saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: [Matthew was a tax collector.] and He [Jesus] saith [Said] unto [To] him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed Him.

[Yahveh/Jesus Christ [God] called Matthew and he followed.]

10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat [Sat eating] in the house, behold, many publicans [Tax collectors] and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.

[We are all sinners in one way or another. Jesus Christ was and is perfect.]

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto His disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans [Tax collectors] and sinners?

[Pharisees were hypocritically self-righteous people. They are members of the Jewish church that emphasized strict interpretation and observance of the Mosaic Law in both its oral and written form.]

12 But when Jesus heard that, He said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

[In other words spiritually sick people need to be healed, made whole spiritually.]

[It is our duty as Christians to plant seeds [Yahveh’s [God’s] word] in spiritually sick people to give them hope and guidance and Yahveh’s [God’s] Holy Spirit. If Yahveh [God] wants the seeds you plant to grow they will grow. People are spiritually sick if they don’t have the Holy Spirit with them.]

13 But go ye [You all] and learn what that meaneth, [Mean’s] I will have mercy, [Compassion] and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

[It is my opinion when Jesus said for I am not come to call the righteous He was actually referring to the Pharisees as self righteous hypocrites because we are all sinners in one way or another.]

[Jesus Christ is quoting or saying about the same thing He said in Hosea 6:6. It shows you what Yahveh [God] wants from you. Let’s go there.

Hosea 6

6 For I [Yahveh/Jesus Christ] desired mercy, [Mercy is your love.] and not sacrifice; [Yahveh [God] doesn’t want your burnt animals, He wants your love.] and the knowledge of God [Yahveh] more than burnt offerings.

[Yahveh [God] wants you to learn His word. He wants you to know Him and what He had written for you.]

7 But they like men have transgressed [Turned away from] the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against Me.

[The Pharisees are self righteous hypocrites and Jesus Christ was bringing people into the knowledge of Yahveh, pulling them away from the traditions of men, their traditions, and they didn’t like it one bit.]

14 Then came to Him [Jesus] the disciples of John, [John the Baptist] saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, [Often] but thy [Your] disciples fast not?

[The word disciple meaning learner. They were learning about Yahveh [God] and His word.]

15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber [Bridal room] mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? [The bridegroom is our Lord Jesus Christ.] but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

[We are to be spiritually married to our Lord Jesus Christ.]

[Jesus will be taken from them when the Kenites [Offspring of satan] have Him crucified on the cross.]

16 No man putteth [Puts] a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh [Takes] from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

[In other words no one can teach new truth to people set in their ways, and especially if it goes against their traditions and doctrine including church doctrine.]

[Verse seventeen is an analogy of comparing what happens when new wine is put into old leather wine skins [Leather bottles] and new leather wins skins. [Leather bottles] The old wine skins represent older people set in their ways concerning what they have been taught. The new wine skins represent new disciples and people who have an open mind and are willing to listen.],

17 Neither do men [Or woman] put new wine [Yahveh’s [God’s] word] into old bottles: [Older people set in their ways.] else the bottles break, and the wine [Yahveh’s [God’s] word] runneth [Runs] out, and the bottles [People] perish: but they put new wine [Yahveh’s [God’s] word] into new bottles, [New disciples and people who have an open mind and are willing to listen.] and both are preserved.

[New wine has a way of continuing to ferment and will expand causing old wine skins to burst. New leather will stretch but old leather won’t and thus Jesus Christ gave us the analogy of the new and old leather wine skins.]

[Verses eighteen thru the end of this chapter and into chapter ten have to do with the twelve tribes of Israel. Until Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross He was sent to the lost sheep [People] of the twelve tribes of Israel.]

18 While He [Jesus] spake [Spoke] these things unto [To] them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped Him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy [Your] hand upon her, and she shall live.

[In St. Luke 8:42 the daughter is twelve years old signifying the twelve tribes of Israel. Keep in mind they are scattered around the world and most are spiritually dead.]

19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did His disciples.

20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind Him, and touched the hem of His garment:

21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole.

[She has great faith.]

22 But Jesus turned Him [Himself] about, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy [Your] faith hath [Has] made thee [You] whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

23 And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels [Flute players] and the people making a noise,

[At that time when anybody died they had people beating their breasts, and wailing, and flute players playing flutes.]

24 He [Jesus] said unto [To] them, Give place: [Make room] for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. [Sleeps] And they laughed Him to scorn. [They laughed at Him.]

[Most people of the 12 tribes of Israel are spiritually dead. They will be awakened during the millennium. The millennium is a one thousand year teaching period between the time Jesus Christ reappears on earth at the seventh trump and when satan will be turned loose for a short season to deceive whomsoever he will just before The Great White Throne Judgment. Discipline in Yahveh’s [God’s] word will be taught during that time period.]

25 But when the people were put forth, [Put out] He [Jesus] went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

[All people of the 12 tribes of Israel and great multitudes of people of Gentile nations will be awakened spiritually during the millennium.]

[As it is written in Isaiah 45:17, and Romans 11:26 Israel will be saved. Israel meaning all twelve tribes including the tribe of Judah.]

26 And the fame [Story] hereof went abroad into all that land.

[In other words the story of Jesus bringing the maid back to life spread throughout all the land.]

27 And when Jesus departed thence, [From that place] two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, Thou [You] Son of David, have mercy [Compassion] on us.

[They called Jesus Son of David because they knew He was born of the bloodline [Genealogy] of King David. They knew He was the Messiah.]

28 And when He [Jesus] was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Jesus saith [Said] unto [To] them, Believe ye [Do you believe] that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, Yea, Lord.

[They believe]

29 Then touched He their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged [Sternly enjoined] them, saying, See that no man know it.

31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad His fame in all that country.

[In other words they told everyone they saw about how Jesus had healed them, and the story spread thru all the country.]

32 As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a dumb [Speechless] man possessed with a devil.

[The devil would not let Him speak.]

33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb [Speechless man] spake: [Spoke] and the multitudes [A large number of people] marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

[In other words we never saw a man cast out a devil.]

[Keep in mind that the subject of this chapter is Israel, thus we have the twelve year old maid; the woman with the issue of blood for twelve years; people that were physically blind, and could spiritually see, and the man with the evil spirit that kept him from talking or thinking Yahveh’s [God’s] word.]

34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth [Cast’s] out devils through the prince of the devils.

[satan is prince of the devils.]

[St. Luke 11:15-20 gives a more in depth account of how our Lord Jesus Christ responded to the Pharisee’s saying He casteth [Casts] out devils through the prince of the devil’s.]

[The Pharisees were a Jewish religious and political party. The Pharisees were known for insisting that the law of Yahveh [God] be observed as the scribes interpreted it and for their special commitment to keeping the laws of tithing and ritual purity.
The Pharisees also believed it was important to observe all Yahveh’s [God’s] law. But they were especially known for their commitment to keep the laws of tithing and ritual purity.
Unlike the Sadducees the Pharisees did believe in the resurrection of the dead.
Pharisees observed the law [Yahveh’s [God’s] law] carefully as far as appearances went but their hearts were far from Yahveh. Their motives were wrong because they wanted the praise of men [See St. Matthew 6:2, 5, 16; 23:5-7]. They also had evil desires that were hidden by their pious show. [See St. Matthew 23:25-28]. That is why Pharisees are often called hypocrites. Their hearts did not match their outward appearance.
The Pharisees thought they could match Yahveh’s [God’s] standards by keeping all the outward rules. Luke 18:9 says they trusted in themselves that they were righteous. This can easily happen when people think Yahveh’s [God’s] will is the same thing as their list of what they can and cannot do.]

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their [The Pharisees] synagogues, [Churches] and preaching the gospel [Good news] of the kingdom, [The King and His dominion] and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

36 But when He [Jesus] saw the multitudes, [Crowds of people] He was moved with compassion [Feeling sympathy to pity] on them, because they fainted, [Because they were wearied of mind] and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

[The Israelite’s were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd. Sheep and lambs with no protection are basically helpless. A shepherd will protect His sheep. Jesus Christ will protect His sheep. His sheep are people who put Him first in their lives by doing His will. His will is for YOU to learn and become a doer of His word.]

37 Then saith [Said] He [Jesus] unto [To] His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, [In other words there are many people in the world who need to be brought into the Kingdom of Yahveh.] but the labourers are few;

[In other words there are not many people who know enough about Yahveh [God] and His word, and have the ability and drive to bring people to Yahveh.]

38 Pray [Make known] ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.

[Jesus Christ is the Lord of the harvest, and He is going to send His twelve disciples to harvest, and because of their testimony in the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts from which the King James Bible was translated they continue to harvest.]

[Keep in mind that the subject of this chapter has been Israel, thus we had the twelve year old maid, and the woman with the issue of blood for twelve years, and people who were physically blind, and could spiritually see, and the man with the evil spirit that kept him from talking or thinking Yahveh’s [God’s] word. Don’t let evil spirits keep you from thinking and talking about Yahveh [God] and His word.]
