Luke 5

5:1 And it came to pass, [It happened] that, as the people pressed upon Him to hear the word of God, He stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

[The people were anxious to hear the word.]

2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: [The ships were tied up there.] but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

3 And He [Jesus Christ] entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, [Peter’s ship] and prayed [Asked] him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And He sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when He had left [Finished] speaking, He said unto [To] Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. [Draught meaning a haul.]

5 And Simon answering said unto [To] Him, Master, we have toiled [Worked hard] all the night, have taken nothing: [In other words we’ve cast these nets over and over and over and have haven’t caught any fish.] nevertheless at Thy [Your] word I will let down the net.

[Simon Peter obeyed Jesus Christ just as we should. Blessings and rewards on earth and in Heaven are given to those who obey Jesus Christ.]

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude [Number] of fishes: and their net brake.

[Actually the net was in the process of breaking.]

7 And they beckoned unto [To] their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

[In other words they made a big haul, just as we will for obeying Jesus Christ. He will give you blessings and rewards on earth and in Heaven because of your obedience to Him.]

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

[We are all sinners in one way or another. Our Lord Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross so you by are putting Him first in your life by doing His will can be forgiven of your sins by repenting of your sin and asking Yahveh [God] for forgiveness of your sin in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.]

9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught [Haul] of the fishes which they had taken:

[Yahveh [God] can control nature. Nothing is impossible with Yahveh.]

10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto [To] Simon, [Peter] Fear not; from henceforth [Now on] thou [You] shalt [Shall] catch men.

[In other words you will become fisher’s of men, bringing people to Yahveh.]

11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook [Laid aside, left] all, and followed Him.

[They had faith in and believed in Him.]

12 And it came to pass, when He was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought [Asked] Him, saying, Lord, if Thou [You] wilt, [Will] thou [You] canst [Can] make me clean.

[The man didn’t say maybe you can make me clean. He knew Jesus Christ could make him clean, he had faith.]

13 And He [Jesus Christ] put forth His hand, and touched Him, saying, I will: be thou [You] clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

[The man was healed.]

14 And He [Jesus] charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew [Show] thyself [Yourself] to the priest, and offer for thy [Your] cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto [To] them.

[This was for a testimony to the church. As it is written in Leviticus 14:4 the offering is two sparrows or pigeons.]

15 But so much the more went there a fame [A rumor] abroad [Everywhere] of Him: [In other words there was talk about Him healing the man all over the surrounding area.] and great multitudes [A great number of people] came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. [Sicknesses]

16 And He withdrew Himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law [Teachers of Yahveh’s [God’s] law.] sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. [Yahshua [Jesus Christ] was there.]

[Actually not many were healed because of non-belief.]

18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with palsy: [Palsy meaning he was paralyzed] and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before Him. [Before Jesus Christ]

[It was so crowded they couldn’t get him in through the door.]

19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, [Great number of people] they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch [Pallet] into the midst [Middle] before Jesus.

20 And when He saw their faith, He said unto [To] him, Man, thy [Your] sins are forgiven thee. [You]

[Only Yahveh [God] can forgive sins. Jesus Christ was Emmanuel, Yahveh [God] with us in a flesh body.]

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh [Speaks] blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

[They didn’t know Jesus Christ was Immanuel Yahveh [God] with us in a flesh body.]

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, [He read their minds.] he answering said unto [To] them, What reason ye [you] in your hearts?

[In other words mind what you are thinking and talking about.]

23 Whether [What] is easier, to say, Thy [Your] sins be forgiven thee; [You] or to say, Rise up and walk?

[In other words regardless of what I say I am going to heal him.]

24 But that ye [You] may know that the Son of man hath [Has] power upon earth to forgive sins, [Then He said to the sick of the palsy,] I say unto [To] thee, [You] Arise, and take up thy [Your] couch, [Pallet] and go into thine [Your] house.

25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

26 And they [The scribes and scripture lawyers] were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange [Extraordinary] things to day.

27 And after these things he [Jesus Christ] went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and He said unto [To] him, Follow Me.

[Levi is Matthew the writer of the book of St. Matthew. He was a tax collector.]

28 And he left all, [Even the money] rose up, and followed Him.

[Levi followed Jesus Christ because he had no choice. He was one of Yahveh’s chosen vessels, chosen by Yahveh [God] to work for Him.]

29 And Levi made Him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

[They were public officials, sinners.]

30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against His disciples, saying, Why do Ye [You] eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 And Jesus answering said unto [To] them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

[In other words only the sick need a physician.]

32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

[What He is saying is that He didn’t come to call on the self righteous hypocrites, [Some so called Christians today.] but that He came to call on sinners.]

[All people are sinners in one way or another including the so called righteous, even though they don’t think they are.]

33 And they [The scribes and Pharisees] said unto [To] Him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but Thine [Your disciples] eat and drink?

[The word disciples meaning students.]

34 And He [Jesus Christ] said unto [To] them, Can ye [You] make the children of the bridechamber [Bridal room] fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

[The children of the bridechamber are Yahveh’s [God’s] Elect, true Christians.]

[We’re having a wedding party.]

35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom [Jesus Christ] shall be taken away from them, [He was crucified] and then shall they fast in those days.

[In other words they will fast after the crucifixion.]

36 And He [Jesus] spake [Spoke] also a parable unto [To] them; No man putteth [Put’s] a piece of a new garment [The new garment is Yahveh’s [God’s] word.] upon an old; [Upon the false religion of a Biblical illiterate person.] if otherwise, [If you do] then both the new [The new word, Yahveh’s [God’s] word.] maketh [Makes] a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new [The new word of Yahveh] agreeth [Agrees] not with the old.[The old false religion]

[Yahveh’s [God’s] word will cause a lot of confusion in that person.]

37 And no man putteth [Put’s] new wine [Religious truth] into old bottles; [The old bottles are people, Biblical illiterate hypocrites.] else the new wine [The true word] will burst the bottles, [They won’t agree.] and be spilled, [Wasted] and the bottles [People] shall perish.

38 But new wine [Yahveh’s [God’s] truth] must be put into new bottles; [The new bottles are symbolic of people that haven’t been taught false doctrine.] and both are preserved.

[In other words Yahveh’s [God’s] truth and the people are both preserved.]

[All of Yahveh’s [God’s] word is truth as translated back to the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts from which the King James Bible was translated. Yahveh [God] is not a liar or the author of confusion.]

39 No man also having drunk old wine [The aged wine] straightway [Immediately] desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

[In other words people get set in their ways, they don’t want to change.]
