Tuesday, October 7, 2025, St. Luke 4:1 – St. Luke 4:44

4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit] returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. [It was a trial for Him.] And in those days He did eat nothing: and when they were ended, He afterward hungered. [Was hungry]

[He was hungry.]

3 And the devil [Satan] said unto [To] Him, If thou [You] be the Son of God, command this stone [The devil] that it be made bread.

4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, [Written in Deuteronomy 8:3.]
That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

[Yahveh’s [God’s] word is food for your soul.]

5 And the devil, taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed [Showed] unto [To]Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

[Heaven is not mentioned because satan didn’t have the authority to show Him heaven.]

6 And the devil said unto [To] Him, All this power will I give thee, [You] and the glory of them: [Of the Kingdoms of the world.] for that is delivered unto [To] me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

[Satan did have that power.]

7 If thou [You] therefore wilt [Will] worship me, all shall be Thine. [Yours]

[Worship meaning to idolize something. Anything you put before Yahveh [God] in your life is an idol. Yahveh [God] expects to be first in your life and He should be because you are one of His children and He created you for His pleasure.]

8 And Jesus answered and said unto [To] him, Get thee [Yourself] behind Me, satan: for it is written, [Written in Deuteronomy 6:13.] Thou shalt [Shall] worship the Lord Thy [Your] God, and Him only shalt [Shall] thou [You] serve.

9 And he [Satan] brought Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto [To] Him, If thou [You] be the Son of God, cast thyself [Yourself] down from hence: [Here]

10 For it is written, He shall give His angels charge over thee, [You] to keep thee: [You]

11 And in their hands they shall bear Thee [You] up, lest at any time [Night or day] Thou [You] dash Thy [Your] foot against a stone.

[This is written in Psalms 91:11&12, but it doesn’t mean they are going to take care of you if you are stupid enough the jump off a high building. satan twisted Yahveh’s [God’s] word. Don’t tempt Yahveh [God]

12 And Jesus answering said unto [To] him, It is said, Thou [You] shalt [Shall] not tempt the Lord Thy [Your] God.

[Thou [You] shalt [Shall] not tempt the Lord Thy [Your] God is written in Deuteronomy 6:16.]

13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him [From Jesus Christ]

14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit [The Holy Spirit] into Galilee: and there went out a fame [Fame meaning a rumor] of him through all the region [Country] round about.

15 And He taught in their synagogues, [Churches] being glorified of all.

[Jesus Christ was glorified because He was a fantastic teacher of the word of Yahveh. He was Yahveh, Emmanuel, Yahveh [God] with us in a flesh body. You can document Jesus Christ was Yahveh [God] with us in a flesh body by comparing St. John 1:1 and St. John 1:14.]

16 And He [Jesus] came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, [Custom meaning He was doing what He normally did.] He went into the synagogue [Church] on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

[Jesus stood up to read scripture from what would be the Old Testament.]

17 And there was delivered unto [To] Him the book of the prophet Esaias. [Isaiah] And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written,

[It’s written in Isaiah 61:1&2. Verses eighteen and nineteen is what is written.

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath [Has] anointed Me to preach the gospel [Good news] to the poor; [The poor are the humble, people who will listen] He hath [Has] sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance [Freedom] to the captives, [Captives of satan] and recovering of sight to the blind, [The spiritually blind] to set at liberty them that are bruised, [Bruised by satan.]

[Jesus Christ can give you a destiny and a purpose to live if you put Him first in your life by doing His will. His will is for you to learn and become a doer of His word.]

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

[The acceptable year of the Lord is the 2nd advent, the day He returns, the Lords day. As written in 2 Peter 3:8 one day to the Lord is as a thousand years to mankind. The Lords day is a thousand year period of time. It is called the millennium.]

[He stopped reading Isaiah at this point because this was fulfilled at this time.]

20 And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue [Church] were fastened on Him.

[They were all looking at Him.]

21 And He [Jesus Christ] began to say unto [To] them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

22 And all bare Him witness, [In other words they were all witnesses of what He said.] and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? [Or isn’t this just a carpenters son.]

[They said it because Joseph was a carpenter.]

23 And He said unto [To] them, Ye [You] will surely say unto [To] Me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: [Yourself] whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Thy [Your] country.

[In other words He is saying they will want to see the miracles.]

24 And He said, Verily [Truly] I say unto [To] you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

[Prophet’s are not accepted in there own country because it is hard for people to believe in somebody they’ve know all their lives doing great things.]

25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows [Widows are people who are away from the word of Yahveh.] were in Israel in the days of Elias, [Elijah] when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

[The famine was for hearing Yahveh’s [God’s] word.]

26 But unto [To] none of them was Elias [Elijah] sent, save unto Sarepta, [su-rep-ta] a city of Sidon, unto [To] a woman that was a widow.

[Elijah was sent to Sarepta because she didn’t follow satan.]

27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus [El-i-se-us] [Elijah] the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

[This is written of in 2 Kings 5:11-14.]

28 And all they in the synagogue, [Church] when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, [Anger]

[They were filled with anger against Him.]

29 And rose up, and thrust Him [Jesus Christ] out of the city, and led Him unto [To] the brow of the hill [A cliff] whereon their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong.

[They wanted to kill Him.]

30 But He passing through the midst [Middle] of them went His way,

[The Holy Spirit closed their eyes to Him.]

31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

32 And they were astonished at His doctrine: [Instructions and teachings] for His word was with power.

[When Jesus said someone was healed of their sickness they were healed.]

33 And in the synagogue [Church] there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

[He was more then likely a preacher.]

34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, [You] Thou Jesus of Nazareth? [The spirit of the unclean devil knew who He was] art [Are] thou [You] come to destroy us? [He knew Jesus Christ had the power to destroy him.] I know thee [You] who Thou [You] art; [Are] the Holy One of God.

[The demon knew exactly who Jesus is.]

35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy [Your] peace, [Keep your mouth shut] and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him [The man with the unclean devil.] in the midst, [In among the people] he came out of him, and hurt him not.

36 And they were all amazed, and spake [Spoke] among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power He commandeth [Commanded] the unclean spirits, and they come out.

37 And the fame [Rumor] of Him went out into every place of the country round about.

[In other words He was talked about everywhere in the surrounding area.]

38 And He [Jesus Christ] arose out of the synagogue, [Church] and entered into Simon’s [Simon Peters] house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought [Requested] Him for her.

39 And He stood over her, and rebuked [Forbid] the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

[She fixed them supper and cared for them.]

40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers [Different] diseases brought them unto [To] Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them, and healed them.

41 And devils [Evil spirits] also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou [You] art [Are] Christ the Son of God. [They know who he is.] And He rebuking [Forbidding] them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that He was Christ.

[They knew He was the anointed one of Yahveh.]

42 And when it was day, He departed and went into a desert [wilderness] place: and the people sought Him, and came unto [To] Him, and stayed Him, [Stayed Him meaning they held Him up] that He should not depart from them.

[Like we have a doctor, we have a healer; don’t let Him get away.]

43 And He said unto [To] them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

[Jesus Christ was sent to preach the Kingdom of Yahveh.]

44 And He preached in the synagogues [Churches] of Galilee.
