Acts 14

14:1 And it came to pass in Iconium, [Iconium is known today as Konya, or Konia] that they [Paul and Barnabus] went both together into the synagogue [Church] of the Jews, and so spake, [Spoke with such great authority] that a great multitude [A large number] both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

[They believed in the word. They believed in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the word.]

2 But the unbelieving Jews [Kenites that lived in the area of Judea.] stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

[In other words the Jews turned the Gentiles against Paul and Barnabus.]

3 Long time therefore abode they [In other words Paul and Barnabus stayed there a long time] speaking boldly in the Lord, [They didn’t hold back.] which gave testimony unto [To] the word of His grace, [To what it takes to please Yahveh.] and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

[Actually Yahveh [God] was working through Paul and Barnabus.]

4 But the multitude [People] of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, [Kenites] and part with the apostles [Paul and Barnabus]

[In other words some believed Paul and Barnabus and some believed the Jews.]

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews [Kenites] with their rulers, to use them [Paul and Barnabus] despitefully, [Violently] and to stone them,

[They wanted to kill Paul and Barnabus.]

6 They were ware [Aware] of it, and fled unto [To] Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth [Lays] round about:

7 And there they preached the gospel.

[The gospel meaning the word of Yahveh. The good news about our Lord Jesus Christ.]

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent [Crippled] in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

[He was born crippled. Yahveh [God] would heal him to show that His word is true.]

9 The same [Crippled man] heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, [In other words Paul had his eyes fixed on him.] and perceiving [Knowing] that he [The cripple] had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, [He wanted people to hear.] Stand upright on thy [Your] feet. And he leaped and walked.

[Yahveh [God] touched the man and healed him.]

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, [Actually it was Yahveh [God] who healed the man.] they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

[In other words these two men are God’s.]

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; [Father of the God’s] and Paul, Mercurius, [Mercurius was speaker of the God’s to them.] because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands [Floral crowns] unto [To] the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

[In other words they were going to sacrifice to Paul and Barnabus.]

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent [Ripped and tore] their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

[They cried out because it would have been a bad sin for them to take credit for anything Yahveh [God] does. They knew Yahveh [God] healed the crippled man, and they were very upset because the people didn’t know it.]

[Don’t ever take credit for what Yahveh [God] does through you.]

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye [You do] these things? We also are men of like passions with you, [We are men like you are.] and preach unto [To] you that ye [You] should turn from these vanities [These empty things] unto [To] the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

[Yahveh [God] made everything. He made you, your house, your car, and the air you breathe. All wisdom comes from Yahveh. Without His wisdom and the materials He placed on earth for us we would not have anything.]

16 [Yahveh] Who in times past suffered [Allowed] all nations to walk in their own ways.

[In other words Yahveh [God] let them do what ever they wanted to do. He let them walk in their heathen ways, and they still do today.]

17 Nevertheless He [Yahveh] left not Himself without witness, in that He did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

[In other words He gave us all the good things in life.]

[Yahveh [God] will give you all the good things in life if you put Him first in your life by doing His will. He will give you blessings and rewards in Heaven. Blessings and rewards in Heaven are very important because they are forever.]

18 And with these sayings [By what they just said.] scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

[In other words Paul and Barnabus barely stopped the people from sacrificing to them.]

19 And there came thither [There] certain Jews [Kenites] from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, [They turned the people against Paul and Barnabus.] and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing [Thinking] he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, [But] as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: [He wasn’t afraid of them.] and the next day he departed [Left] with Barnabas to Derbe.

[Yahveh [God] wouldn’t let Paul die. He had work to do.]

21 And when they had preached the gospel [The good news about our Lord Jesus Christ.] to that city, and had taught many, [Many people] they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming [Strengthened] the souls of the disciples, [In other words they were making sure the disciples knew the word they had been taught was true, and the only way to eternal life was thru Jesus Christ.] and exhorting [Calling for] them to continue in the faith, [In faith in the word, in faith in Jesus Christ.] and that we must through much tribulation [Persecution and trouble] enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, [In other words when they had organized every church.] and had prayed with fasting, [Without eating] they commended them [Turned them over] to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

[Pamphylia is due north of Cyprus.]

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, [Perga meaning earthly.] they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence [From there] sailed to Antioch, from whence [Where] they had been recommended to the grace [Unmerited favor] of God for the work [For their work for Yahveh.] which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, [When they arrived there] and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how He [Yahveh] had opened the door of faith unto [To] the Gentiles.

[In other words they told Yahveh’s [God’s] people the things Yahveh [God] had done through them. They gave Yahveh [God] the credit.]

[Gentiles are all Nations and people other then the twelve tribes of Israel.]

28 And there they abode [Stayed a] long time with the disciples.

[Disciples meaning Students of Yahveh’s [God’s] word.]
